LOT 707 DIRIGIBLE COMMEMORATIVE LACE SHAWL, c. 1920.
Black lace over white silk chiffon with ends trimmed in black silk satin. The propeller driven dirigible woven into this shawl is very similar to a famous machine designed by the French engineers Gabriel You and E. Delamarne. The fantastic looking machine was immortalized after the flight around the Eiffel Tower by the Brazilian flyer Albert Santos-Durmont. It was after this flight in 1901 that images of the flying machines appeared in fabric and other textile designs. Imagery of this type is quite rare in lace. 108 x 26 Excellent. $210Read More
